From all bad things, good things must come

So, I'm sure you all have noticed my lack of posting lately. Actually, I know ya'll have noticed because my faithful readers are never ones to be subtle.

Last Saturday, September 23, my Memaw passed away. She was 83 years old.

It has been a rough couple weeks and I can't thank you all enough for your thoughts, prayers, phone calls and emails.

Fortunately, I am a strong believer that good things can be found in hard times. And my faith held true once again.

Meet Aubrey.
She is the good thing that I was discovered with the passing of my grandmother. Aubrey is my first cousin once removed. This little girl instantly won my heart.

I realize this statement might sound a little odd, or just down right twilight zone-ish, if you know me. But it's true. And the best thing, is that it seems as though the feeling is mutual.

Aubrey is not the kind of girl to hand her affections over to just anyone (sound familiar?). According to her mother, Mandy, she is rarely, if ever, trusting of new people. And yet, not 20 minutes after meeting her, she extended her little chubby arms up toward me in a request to be held. And I happily obliged.

She ran around for two days yelling my name if we weren't in the same room, gave me hugs and even handed me her slightly chewed cheese. She's an absolute doll.

I'm hoping I get to see a lot more of Aubrey now that we've met. I'd like to spoil her to pieces.

My cousin Josh, me, Aubrey, and Mandy.

Awww, Stef! That almost made me cry.
You know, kids are a darn good judge of character. You shouldn't be surprised that she liked you.
I love the way you said "her chubby little arms." I can see it now. Soooo cute.
And she is a doll.
Lurve you!

I'm glad that you found the bright star in a dark sky. She's beautiful. These sad times actually are the most "bonding" and some of the happiest.
I'm here if you need anything or if you just don't want to do something.
